Hiking the Naqab Stairs and Deira Al Baaib in Ras Al Khaimah
Wadi Naqab, located in Ras Al Khaimah, is a stunning natural area perfect for hiking enthusiasts. The Naqab Stairs and Deira Al Baaib trails offer breathtaking views and a challenging yet rewarding experience.
We parked some distance after the Sheri village hike trail start point.
Due to present condition of the offroad, only SUVs and AED vehicles can reach this area.
Sedans with high clearance may manage, but it will definitely affect the vehicle.

At this point, you can already see the construction made on the right for stairs, washrooms and shelters.
Please note: The water supply is not always assured at the washrooms.
From here you can just start your hike on the stone steps with a steep high staircase.
The quality of the stairs is grea, Thank you ras al Khaimah !!
The staircase has been made safe by installing the barriers and poles.
But a good amount of care and presence of mind is definitely needed for safety.
Naqab Stairs
The Naqab Stairs trail is known for its steep ascent, leading hikers to the plateau above. The trail starts at the bottom of the wadi and follows a rocky path with ancient stairs carved into the rock. The hike is moderately challenging, with an elevation gain of around 300 meters1. Along the way, hikers can enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Hajar mountains and the peacefulness of the wadi.
After about ascending 150 meters, the route converts into a a mix of trail and stairs and the views change to the vertical cliffs of the mountains around.
The trail will finally lead you into a cute little village names Deira al Baaib.
There are some recent stone houses and also ancient ruins of houses along with cemetery and rain water harvesting tanks.
We found water in some of them, not sure if they are drinkable.
There are many fields which gives a good option to camp up there. But carrying heavy backpack all the way on the steep terrain will eb challenging.
From the summit, you can clearly view Jebel Tafif, Jebel Harf Tila and Jebel Qadaah along with Jebel Yanas and the Wadi Naqab.
On our descent, we entered the Naqab cave. It was dark and hot inside along with dusty stench and it was not much comfortable to remain inside.
You will need good lights to explore the cave, which was found in 2021.
Whether you’re an experienced hiker or just looking for a new adventure, the Naqab Stairs and Deira Al Baaib trails in Wadi Naqab are sure to provide an unforgettable experience.
