This hike is considered as most difficult trek in Karnataka and usually hiked over 2 days for a pleasant experience. But since 2024, the rules have changed and overnight stay on the mountain is not allowed.
If you want to enjoy the KP trek, I suggest you hike like we did, hike one way with less elevation gain and enjoy your hike in around 10 hours from the allotted 12 hours by the authorities.

The Beedalli to Kukke trail, culminating at Kumara Parvatha, is one of the most challenging and rewarding treks in Karnataka. This trail offers a mix of dense forests, expansive grasslands, and breathtaking views of the Western Ghats.
This trek starts from Beedalli, a small village near Somwarpet, and ends at Kukke Subramanya, covering a distance of approximately 18 kilometers.
The trail is divided into two main sections: the short ascent to Kumara Parvatha summit and the long descent to Kukke Subramanya.
Nestled in the Western Ghats, this trek offers a unique blend of dense forests, expansive grasslands, and breathtaking views. Kumara Parvatha, also known as Pushpagiri, stands tall at 1,712 meters (5,617 feet) and is the second-highest peak in Kodagu district.
The Beedalli to Kukke trail leading to Kumara Parvatha is a trekker’s paradise, offering a perfect blend of adventure and natural beauty. Whether you’re an experienced trekker or a nature enthusiast, this trek promises an unforgettable experience in the heart of the Western Ghats.
Due to below mentioned 2024 rules which effectively makes KP trek from Kukke side very enduring, most of the trekkers will not be able to reach the summit and return within 12 hours allowed.
We planned our trek from Kodagu / Coorg side.
We arranged vehicle to drop us at Beedalli side and pick us up from Kukke side.
Logistics Plan

How to Reach: Beedalli is accessible by road from major cities like Bangalore and Mysore. You can take a bus or hire a taxi to reach Somwarpet and then proceed to Beedalli.
Accommodation: There are a few homestays and lodges in Somwarpet where you can stay overnight before starting the trek.
The route from Beedalli forest office to the KP summit is very very scenic through green lush forest with almost no sunlight, fully shaded most of the 6 Kms path.
From the KP summit, the next section to Shesha parvatha and then descent towards Kukke is different with green grass and grand views of 360 degrees view of areas around.
Once you reach Bhatramane, again the route goes through forest and eventually you reach Kukke.
The ascent to Kumara Parvatha is steep and challenging, requiring good physical fitness. After reaching the peak, the descent to Kukke Subramanya is equally demanding, with rocky paths and steep slopes.

Daijiworld Media Network – Sullia (MS)
Sullia, Oct 6, 2024: Trekking on the Kumara Parvata mountain range near Subramanya, also known as Pushpagiri trekking, begins today on Sunday, October 6. Only those who have registered online are permitted to enter the area.
Access to Kumara Parvata can be gained from Devaragadde near Kukke or from Somwarpet. Last year, a significant influx of trekkers created chaos, prompting this year’s limit on the number of participants allowed.
Trekking was prohibited during the summer and monsoon seasons. Forest Minister Eshwar Khandre introduced online booking and new guidelines for trekking last summer at Subramanya.
To participate, trekkers must register on the Aranya Vihara website of the forest department. Only 335 trekkers are allowed per day, with three trekking routes available online: Kukke Subramanya-Kumaraparvata, Beedahalli of Kodagu-Kumaraparvata-Beedahalli, and Beedahalli-Kumaraparvata-Subramanya.
Previously, trekkers could stay overnight at Bhatramane of Girigadde and continue trekking the following morning. However, this year, such overnight stays are prohibited.
Entry to the Kumara Parvata trekking zone is allowed only between 6 am and 9 am, and trekkers must begin their ascent from Girigadde by 11 am. All trekkers must return by 6 pm; resting during the trek is not permitted, and a same-day return is mandatory. The forest department has put several conditions in place this year.
With overnight stays in Girigadde no longer allowed, trekkers will need to navigate a challenging 12-kilometer route from Subramanya, with a maximum completion time of 12 hours (6 am to 6 pm).
