Trekking Experience:

Trekking to Kudremukh Peak is a thrilling experience. The trek is moderately challenging, with steep ascents, dense forests, and rocky trails.

The trek usually starts from Mullodi, the base camp for the trek. The trek officially commences from Mullodi. Samse village is the nearest place for accommodation and food.

Lush Greenery:
As you start the trek, you’ll be immersed in the rich biodiversity of the Western Ghats. The trail is flanked by thick rainforests, offering a refreshing experience amidst the verdant beauty of the region.

Rivers and Waterfalls:
The trail crosses several small rivers and streams. The sound of gurgling water and the sight of pristine waterfalls make for picturesque stops to rest and recharge.

Breathtaking Scenery:
As you ascend, the terrain becomes more challenging, but the stunning views of the surrounding hills and valleys make every step worthwhile. The landscape changes from dense forests to open grasslands with rolling hills.

Kudremukh Peak:
The summit offers a panoramic view of the nearby mountains and plains and the surrounding hills. The iconic face of a horse’s face (Kudre Mukha in Kannada) is what gives the peak its name.

Wildlife Encounters: Keep an eye out for diverse flora and fauna, including endemic species like the lion-tailed macaque and the Malabar giant squirrel.

Best Time to Trek:

The best time to trek Kudremukh Peak is during the post-monsoon months from September to February when the weather is pleasant, and the landscape is at its greenest.
During the monsoons the trail can be slippery and also the clouds may obstruct the views from the top.

I have to mention the presence of leeches. There are many of them as it is usual in India when you hike through grasslands / shola forests during rainy season. They will come out more when it is rainy (when the trail is wet), make sure to keep sanitizer / salt water in a spray bottle to remove them easily.

Mobile network only available at some point of the trek. Even in kudremukh / mullodi you will struggle to find coverage (Except for Jio and BSNL)

Nearby Attractions:

Kudremukh National Park:
The trek is within the Kudremukh National Park, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site and home to a wide range of wildlife and lush greenery.
