Wakan – Qurah – Hadash – Jebel Akhdar Summit Loop (W24a, W24b, W25): Oman
We hiked the famous super scenic loop hike of Oman W24a, W24b and W25 trails combination that connect Wakan village, Qurah village, Hadash village with Jebel Akhdar Summit and back to Wakan.
It was a 16 Kms loop with 1450 meters of elevation gain.
We started our hike from the famous scenic, green and active village of Wakan (near Nakhl area of Oman ), descended to Qurah village, then continued further to Hadash village. (Wakan to Hadash section is challenging terrain with flakes type rocks, loose rocks and steep climbs and the trail markings are sometimes not visible)
From Hadash village, we ascended to the Jebel Akhdar mountain plateau via steep long route of visible rocky trail on the face of the cliff all the way to the top.
The top plateau oversees the Sayq area of Jebel Akhdar and at the heights of Akhdar.
From the plateau, then we traversed around and located the Wakan pass and finally descended back to Wakan village through a well visible trail that has been used by the villagers for centuries.
We were blessed with clouds and we had great views.
We hiked clockwise Wakan-Qurah-Hadash-Akhdar plateau and back to Wakan in just below 9 hours total with many short breaks.
I would like to point out here that the section between Qurah and Hadash is full of flake type terrain and steep, which also can be slippery due to loose terrain.
Best to climb up as we did than descend down due to challenging loose flaky terrain.
I feel best experience can be Hadash-Akhdar-Wakan one way although you will need logistics planning at both ends.
Challenging mountain trek but views are spectacular. It took around 9 hours to complete the full loop (by starting from W24b to W24a and ending at W25). Highly recommended to start early. Physical fitness is must along with some previous tracking experience. Route is marked but at some points its tricky so better to load GPX file in some application like Garmin explore for additional support.
Breathtaking views of both the Wakan basin and Sayq plateau. All tracks are well marked. Best done in a clockwise direction so that you’re in the shade of the mountains in the morning, then again in the afternoon.
One of the most scenic and breathtaking walks I’ve done in Oman.
