As you can see, most of these pictures we are wearing red colour as part of Christmas spirit.
Since 2021, I started my own tradition of hiking up Jebel Yabana summit as Santa Hike for Christmas every year. Celebrating Christmas at the top of the mountain with a yummy Plum cake was an exceptional moment. Moments like these light our lives and these memories will always be cherished.
Jebel Yabana is the 3rd highest mountain UAE at about 1500 meters elevation.
Most of the hike trail was 45 degrees gradient or more.
One of most enduring hikes of my life.
Please note that the final 300 meters elevation last push on this hike is over very loose rocks and can be unsafe.
You need good hiking fitness, body balancing skills on uneven rocks and trail navigation skills for this hike.
We started from Wadi Shah towards Helek village and further summitted Jebel Yabana.
We descended back to Wadi Shah same way..
We parked and started the hike from Wadi Shah Bear Grylls base area.

The first half of the ascent is sort of marked and with trail and arranged with narrow stone stairs at places till you reach the Helek village.
The second half, both Ascent and Descent is full of Loose loose rocks, steep ascent / descent, Large sharp boulders and no trail whatsoever.
You need to navigate through the rough area, so please carry hand gloves and wear full sleeve shirts/pants to protect yourself.
During descent we decided to hike via the the same Helek village and a beautifully laid trail with cemented stony steps. Even this Wadi is beautiful too.
Eventually the initial Ascent and Descent trails meet at the base and from there it is about 1.5 Kms from the Wadi Shah.
We also got the opportunity to pose along with the UAE flag that was installed on 3rd November, the UAE flag day.
There is a visitor book in the summit at the flag pole base, which you can sign.
Please refer my other safe trails recorded to hike Yabana via a more stable path from Eastern side.
Some are similar to this out and back route and some are bit different to include a nearby village.
